Biographical Sketch
Dr. Deanna Hughes earned her undergraduate psychology degree from Furman University in 1994 where she was involved in the national psychology honor society. She pursued a masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from 1994-1996 at Florida State University with a focus on adjustment to medical illness.
In 2002, Dr. Hughes completed her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Florida Institute of Technology, a graduate program approved by the American Psychological Association (APA).
She completed an APA Approved Accredited Internship Program at the Miami VA Medical Center with specializations in geropsychology and palliative care.
Dr. Hughes transitioned her focus to child assessment during her postdoctoral fellowship at Coastal Behavioral Health Center in Sarasota, Florida. She fulfilled her Florida Psychologist (PY 6850) license requirements in 2003.
Dr. Hughes is in full time private practice. She is passionate about weaving the mind, body, and spirit to facilitate healing while honoring the resiliency of her patients’ life stories. Dr. Hughes is published in the areas of spirituality, trauma, depression, and geropsychology.
Her current interests include the treatment of anxiety disorders, coping with chronic medical illnesses, and pre-surgical pain consultation. She recently had the privilege of training at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
